Meritage

Victor Cruz produces an absolutely outstanding red Meritage for his Cañon de Sol wine family. Victor's unique red wine blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot from select vineyards within the Columbia Valley. The term Meritage was coined to identify wines that represent the highest form of the winemaker's art and blending of fine grapes; and to distinguish these wines from the more generic moniker "red table wine."

Merlot

In the hands of a talented vintner like Victor Cruz, Merlot grapes can be transformed into a supple, stylish wine. Merlot grapes feature a relatively thin, dark skin that imparts fewer tannin creating a rich, dark ruby hue and a wine with less astringency. The Merlot grapes in the Columbia Valley are particularly sought after as the Columbia Valley and the French Bordeaux regions are grown along virtually the same latitude—45-46º North. This allows for more  sunshine each day during the summer growing months than lower latitude vineyards. Syrah

Cañon de Sol Syrah has big, jammy, dark-fruit flavors, complemented by toasty spicy accents. Wines made from Syrah are often powerfully flavoured and full-bodied. The Syrah variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes. Aroma characters can range from violets to dark berries, chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called "typical" though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. Viognier

Wonderfully floral with lush peach and apricot flavors, followed by a touch of oak on the finish. This is our first white wine produced from this up and coming varietal grape. Limited production. Experience the pleasure of this Rhone style wine release.

Viognier wines are well-known for their floral aromas, due to terpenes, which are also found in Muscat and Riesling wines. There are also many other powerful flower and fruit aromas which can be perceived in these wines depending on the weather conditions and the age of the vines.
