History of Cañon de Sol Winery

“No, fancy buildings, no symmetrical rows of trellises, just rolling hills tucked away in the picturesque Badger Canyon, home of Cañon De Sol Winery.” Victor Cruz, a native of Wapato Washington graduated from Western Washington University and became an Engineer, working as a project Manager for Westinghouse at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation Cleanup for 15 years. Victor entered into the wine industry crushing his first wine in 1999 with the guidance of the nationally recognized vintner, wine marketer and childhood friend, Charlie Hoppes. Charlie studied viticulture and winemaking at the University of California-Davis, working as the head winemaker of Chateau Ste. Michelle for a number of years and later starting his own label, Fidelitas.

There were a little over 100 bonded wineries in the state of Washington when Victor decided to venture into the wine industry, now there are over 700. At Cañon de Sol, every bottle of premium wine is carefully handcrafted to ensure the absolute highest integrity. Sourcing fruit from top-of-the-line Columbia Valley vineyards including low-tonnage lots from Milbrandt Vineyards on the Wahluke slopes. The fruit is hand-sorted and manually crushed to precisely control the pressure on the grapes. The fruit is only bought in small lots to insure the highest quality and the wine is babied in the barrels whether American or French Oak depending on what is best suited to the desired characteristics the wine is to take on.

Conveniently located just minutes from downtown Seattle, Woodinville houses over 70 wineries. The Woodinville Wine Experience was opened in December 2009 offering two labels handcrafted by Victor Cruz, Canon de Sol Winery & Irlandes Limited Reserve Winery. The Lodge

Enjoy wine tasting in the Columbia Valley while staying at our cedar lodge located on 45 acres of the winery. Private, beautiful location available for rent on a daily basis.
